Brief History of Silk Road Scholarship

The Chinese Government Scholarship Silk Road Program was established by the Ministry of Education of China in 2017. Its purpose is to provide full scholarships to facilitate the recruitment of young students from countries along the Belt and Road initiative by Chinese colleges.

  2. KRW 600,000 per month for up to a maximum of four semesters

Silk Road Scholarship Coverage for Chinese Students

The Silk Road Scholarship full scholarship includes

The requirements for Silk Road Scholarship applications

Non-Chinese students who have graduated high school and have excelled academically, are in good health and have no record of criminal activity.

Students must be under the age of 35 to enrol in a master’s program and under the age of 40 to enrol in a doctoral program.

Not have received any financial support from any companies or organizations (there needs to be a statement).

Eligibility Requirements for Language Applicants to Chinese-taught programs are required to submit an HSK level 4 exam score of 260 or above.

Applicants to programs taught in English are expected to have a minimum score of either 6 on the IELTS or 85 on the TOEFL.

Those individuals who are in a position to apply for a language test result waiver must fulfil one of the following criteria:

applicants whose native language is Chinese or English, or whose country’s official language is either of those two languages.

applicants who have completed a degree program that was either in Chinese or English can be considered.

Method of Application for Silk Road Scholarship for Chinese Students

Fill out the CSU application online. (This is a REQUIRED step; applications without this information will not be reviewed.)

Apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship by registering and logging into the CSU international student online system at

Join the CSC online.

Visit to access the CSC Online Application. Choose the Type B category of programming. Central South University’s agency code is 10533. The application can be filled out and submitted online as well as printed.

Please upload your application materials online to Central South University. (We cannot process your application at CSC.)

If you want to apply in either system, here are the things you need to submit:

Mirror Image of the Passport Website. If the applicant’s present passport does not match the requirement (i.e., it expires before September 2023), a new passport application must be submitted prior to the submission of the application;

A photocopy of your highest degree certificate (in either Chinese or English) from a notary public. Please submit the pre-graduate certificate if the candidate is a senior in the current degree program.

Transcripts from school. The academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department of the student’s current institution must issue and sign these transcripts.

They can be in either Chinese or English, but if they are in a language other than English, certified English translations must be included.

Silk Road Scholarship Application portal

Credentials proving proficiency in a language. Applicants to courses taught in Chinese are expected to provide official HSK reports validating their Chinese language skills. Those who wish to enrol in courses taught in English must submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Research proposal. More than a thousand characters or words are required for a study plan written in Chinese or English; please include your history of research, your accomplishments in the field, your goals for the future, and your methodology. Doctoral candidates must have their Chinese advisor sign their proposal;

Upload a video introducing yourself and discussing your educational and research experiences. The duration of the video should be no more than 60 seconds. Videos should be no more than 40MB in size and saved in MP4 format;

CV is another important document that you must attach to your application;

Letters of recommendation. Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (only in Chinese or English) are required.

These recommendations should elaborate on the applicant’s reasons for wanting to study in China, their current skill sets, and their expectations for the future. The date of issuance must be later than October 1, 2023;

Blood test copies and the completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form. All of the tests on the Physical Examination Record.pdf must be completed by the applicant.

If there is no photo, incomplete examinations, no hospital or doctor’s stamp, and no signature, the paperwork will be considered void. You can fill out the form in either English or Chinese.

The deadline for Silk Road Scholarship submission of applications will be on the 1st day of October 2023.

Documentation of no criminal history. As of or after October 1, 2023, the applicant must provide a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record from the local public security office.

Successful applicants will be notified via email and directed to the CSU unified payment platform (WeChat Pay, Alipay, and UnionPay are accepted) to submit the CNY 500 application and review fee.

The application and review fee must be paid in full and submitted within ONE week for consideration. There is NO NEED to pay the money if you do not pass the initial evaluation.

Notification and enrollment for the Silk Road Scholarship in 2023

In the usual course of events, the letter of admission and the visa application form will be sent prior to July 31, 2023. Because of the approval process, the precise delivery time cannot be determined at this time.

As a result of changes made to the CSC admission rules for this academic year, it is possible that students who have been recommended by their universities for enrollment at CSC will not be accepted there as recipients of Chinese government scholarships.

For the most up-to-date information regarding the admission scholarship, kindly refer to the Admission Notice.

Students enrolled in the CSC are not permitted to hold any other scholarships, including those offered by the local Chinese government and colleges.

Once discovered, the students’ CSC qualification will be revoked, and they will be required to return any scholarships for which they have been awarded.

Those who purposefully hide the fact that they get financial support would not only be disqualified but they will also be barred from applying for scholarships offered by the Chinese government for the next three years.

Annually, the beginning of September marks the beginning of the registration period, and the Admission Notice will specify the exact time for registration.

Students are required to complete the registration process within the allotted amount of time stated on the Admission Notice.

Those individuals who fail to register within the allotted amount of time will have their admissions revoked.

Scholarship recipients are not permitted to alter the duration of their studies, their major, or the university they attend.

The application cost as well as any materials purchased with it are not refundable, regardless of whether or not you are accepted.

We kindly ask that you not submit your scholarship applications to both the CSC and the CSU at the same time.

Annual Review of the Silk Road Scholarship

Every student who receives a scholarship will be subjected to an annual evaluation of their scholarship based on their academic and daily performance during the previous year.

If they pass the review, they will continue to receive the scholarship and all of its benefits. In that case, the scholarship will either be put on hold or terminated entirely.
